Jalan Chow Kit

This street is named after Loke Chow Kit, an entrepreneur and public figure during the early 1900s.

He was the member of the KL Sanitary Board, President of the Straits Chinese Association and the Oriental Stand, Trustee for the Kong Siew Wooi Koon and Visiting Justice of the Jail and Vagrant Ward. He was also among the first local Chinese to be appointed as a Justice of Peace.

Chow Kit is a familiar name in Kuala Lumpur as a name of a suburb district, a bazaar, monorail station, hotel and even a name of a song by Sudirman.
