Jalan Parlimen

This road provides access from the city centre to the Malaysian Houses of Parliament. Club Road, which used to stop at Seven Dials, was absorbed as Jalan Parlimen and the road extended to the Parliament building.

The idea for a Parliament building was mooted by the first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. The site was selected in 1959, on the hill known as the West Folly Hill. The hilltop was leveled to about 61 meters above sea level, and on 31 August 1962 Tuanku Syed Putra Al-Haj, the third Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia laid the foundation stone of the development. The first Parliament session held in this building was on 16 September 1963.
