Why is Malaysians talking about white flag and what is the #BenderaPutih campaign

The news of the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) which has no specific ending date has caused another round of uncertainty and anxiety among Malaysians. Business after businesses have been closed down and many have lost their jobs, income and loved ones due to the pandemic. Many have suffered from depression and some have even contemplated suicide.

In response to that, Malaysians have started to initiate the #BenderaPutih campaign in social medias, calling those in need of assistance to raise a white flag in front of their homes.

The idea of the campaign is pretty straightforward, if you are in need of food, groceries and essentials, just raise a white flag outside your home to signal to others that you are in need of assistance.

If you feel that you have the ability to help others, take note of those white flags that have been raised, and do try to assist them within your ability. But always remember to practice the necessary precaution such as wearing masks, sanitising yourself, avoid communication and be cautious of your surroundings.

Otherwise, you can always share this article and tell people about the #BenderaPutih campaign, so those who are able, will help those in need.

Even better, with the tech experts joining in to assist, they have setup websites where people can raise and track a digital white flag. Read more about it here.

Movement Control Order (MCO) will be maintained for now

Phase one of the movement control order (MCO) under the National Recovery Plan (PPN) will be maintained until the three key threshold value indicators are achieved, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the transition to Phase two would take into account the three key threshold value indicators, namely that the number of daily COVID-19 cases drop to below 4,000; the rate of bed usage in intensive are units (ICU) is at a moderate level; and 10 per cent of the population has received two doses of the vaccine jabs.

“Based on the risk evaluation carried out by the Ministry of Health (KKM), the government will maintain the Phase one period nationwide.

“This takes into account of the current situation, which has yet to successfully transition from Phase one to Phase two, where the graph on daily COVID-19 positive cases shows a horizontal trend,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also announced that eateries could operate from 6.00am to 10.00pm, effective from 28 June 2021, after taking into account the appeals and views of food outlet operators.

He also explained that the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 are still applicable for the Phase one of the PPN, where all social and economic activities are not allowed to operate, except for essential sectors listed in the positive list issued by the National Security Council (MKN).

In the meantime, according to the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, more comprehensive assistance for all groups of society will be announced on Monday or Tuesday.

No medical evidence that claims eating durian after vaccination will cause death

The Ministry of Health (MoH) is aware of a viral message claiming that a man that ate durians after getting his vaccination has caused death. The Ministry has posted a public service announcement to debunk the message as fake and has urged the public not to share the message further.

Image / Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia

The purported message said a man had gotten his vaccination and took durian on the following day. It suggested that the man died after eating durians and urge people to beware and to be careful.

Later on, it was confirmed that that particular man’s death was caused by heart attack, and has no relation to consuming durian after vaccination.

Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said that there is no medical evidence to prove that people cannot consume durian after getting their Covid-19 vaccine.

Sharing such unverified information will only affect the business of the durian sellers. Every business and individuals are already suffering in this pandemic period, let us no put extra burden on them by sharing fake news.

As of now, there are no dietary restrictions after getting your Covid-19 vaccination. But do keep in mind don’t overload yourself with durians. It will still cause you health problems regardless of you have taken your Covid-19 vaccination or not. After all, too much of anything is good for nothing. So keep your durian intakes at a moderate level.

If you need to know where to get your durians in Klang Valley area, just visit this link and we have a list.

Delicious Fudgy Brownies to Try in Klang Valley

Brownies can come in different types, texture, ingredients and flavour depending on the creativity of the baker. While we may be familiar with the normal brownies commercially, there is this one thing with fudgy brownies that we love.

Fudgy brownies are moist, dense and gooey, with almost the texture of fudge, but not quite as compact. There are a couple of bakery and cafes offering pretty delicious fudgy brownies around Klang Valley and the Greater Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Jalil Stadium PPV: Here’s What You Need to Know Before Going

Phase Three of the Covid-19 immunisation program has begun for Klang Valley in conjunction with the opening of the Bukit Jalil Stadium PPV. The phase covers all remaining adults under 60 years old. If you’ve received an appointment, the special committee of ensuring access to Covid-19 vaccine supply (JKJAV) has provided some tips for those heading to the national stadium.

Photo / Twitter @kkmputrajaya

The Bukit Jalil Stadium is a new mega vaccination centre with a capacity of vaccinating up to 10,000 doses per day. There will be three stations identified as HCO A, B and C with your assigned station is indicated in the MySejahtera app.

Bukit Jalil Stadium is so big, where to enter?

If you going by LRT, you are advised to enter through Gate A.

If you’re driving, you are advised to park at Car Park B if your appointment is at HCO A and HCO C, or Car Park C if your assigned to HCO B and C.

If you’re going there by eHailing, taxi or someone is dropping you off, you may do so at Gate E.

There will be a dedicated drop-off area for people with disabilities (OKU) at the OKU Parking Zone. There will also be buggy services provided for elders or those with walking difficulties.

Don’t worry about interdistrict and interstate travel as you just need to show your vaccine appointment if you are being stopped by the authorities. As long as you are going for your vaccination, you’re permitted to travel.

Please try not to be late, and also not to be too early to avoid overcrowding. Arriving 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment is good, and only those with appointment are allowed to enter the vaccination centre.

Photo / Twitter @kkmputrajaya
What to bring?

Do not forget to bring your identity card (MyKad) or passport, your mobile phone with MySejahtera apps installed, a pen to fill up the consent forms and also a list of medications that you are taking, if there is any.

Since the Bukit Jalil stadium is partially covered, you’re advised to bring an umbrella or a mini-battery-fan. It might be useful when it rains or when it is too hot.

Photo / Facebook @jkjavmy

Remember to wear your mask as well, getting a vaccination doesn’t mean you’re fully immune to Covid-19.

Wear comfortable attire and with those that you can easily allow the medical officers to give you a jab.

Have you read about the different vaccines that Malaysia will be delivering to us? You can read about it here.

Wizards at Tribeca Will Be Closing Down After 4 Years of Operation

Not so long ago, Coliseum Cafe announced the closure of their 100 year old outlet due to the pandemic challenges. This is not the only case though, there are numerous other businesses that could no longer sustain their operations. Recently, Wizards at Tribeca also announced on social media that they will be closing down after four years of operations.

To many cafes, restaurants and other small businesses, it is indeed a huge challenge during this one and half years of pandemic. If you’re not that badly affected, do support these local cafes as you can. It will do great help to enable them to survive as well as to sustain the local economy.

Started by five friends, they have brought Wizards to a high level as evidenced by its continuing recognition for excellence through various awards, reviews and articles.

Unfortunately, as each of the partners have been striving through the pandemic by using their hard-earned savings and resources, they have decided to close this chapter of the Wizards.

But they are hoping that they can find a new leadership to take over the restaurant by looking for buyers to continue their legacy.

Check out Malaysia’s own ‘Shibuya Crossing’ for pedestrians in Bukit Bintang

Shibuya Crossing is best known for the incredible ‘scramble’ that occurs every time the traffic lights turn red, stopping all vehicles in every direction to allow a huge wave of pedestrians to flood into the intersection for a few moments. That crossing has also been popular among street photographers snapping photos of the busy scene, and that similar pedestrian crossing is now available in our very own city, Kuala Lumpur.

According to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)’s twitter posts, the new pedestrian crossing will be at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang. The new pedestrian crossing will optimise walkability in the high traffic area and it is opened to the public over the weekend of 19th June.

In fact, even before the scramble crossing was decided by the DBKL, that specific spot has been popular among photographers and Instagrammers shooting photos of it.

We are pretty sure some photographers will scramble to the crossing to snap some good photos when the MCO is lifted and it is safe again.
