Chan Sow Lin is a tin mining tycoon who founded the Loong Hing and Mun Fatt tin mining companies that operated in Serdang. He has also established Chan Sow Lin & Co. Ltd, and engineering and foundry company; and is located along the road that bears his name.
Chan was also an active member of the community which co-founded the Chan She Shu Yuen (Chan Clan Temple), Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Jishangtang Charity Hall, Tung Shin Hospital, Victoria Institution and the Confucian School. He was also the leading member of the Anti-Opium Society and sat on the Selangor State Council.
